I received a call from my Tita Jean a few weeks ago. She wanted me to meet a friend of hers. She wanted him to check on me and on the baby. You see, he has a gift. His name is Efren Borromeo, known to his friends (and those who watched his story on Maalaala Mo Kaya) as Fr. Momoy. He is a Catholic priest that has a healing ministry in Albay. He is invited to places to conduct healing sessions, spending time with each person, praying over them, checking them, telling them what he sees. He has some sort of x-ray vision and explains to you your condition.
I didn’t think much of it at first. But thoughts, prayers and blessings are always appreciated. And of course, I looked forward to having visitors come.
When he entered the room, he smiled at me right away. He has a very warm, comforting smile. He is a big, jolly man but seemingly, very gentle. He said “Hello, Tam” with much familiarity – like he knew me.
We prayed and he put his hands over my tummy. He made a slight frown and confirmed what our doctor had said. He described our baby’s position in my womb. He described his heart beat and his development. He said it would be best not to fly home.
I was ready to hear that. I think all the hours in silence and solitude allow you to create different scenarios in your head. Giving birth in Naga was already an option. And really, at this point, keeping our baby inside til it is safe to come out is priority.
Fr. Momoy’s face was serious, when his eyes finally met mine, he smiled again, perhaps sensing my worry. He came back to see me several times while he was in Naga – his concern for Baby touched me and Tom. We are grateful for the prayers, but also slightly alarmed by the attention. Is it that bad? Reading different articles online and being part of a forum on placenta previa adds to the anxiety as well.
As of now, the only thing I can really do is listen to the doctors orders (and now, Fr. Momoy’s as well). And pray.
——-
Fr. Momoy’s reason for coming over was a scheduled healing mass at San Jose. He was to say mass on July 26 and heal those that come to the church. That day he prayed for over 500 people.
He stayed with Lola in San Antonio for a few nights although she was insistent that he sleep in the seminary. Lola wanted him to talk to Fr. Nono.
Fr. Momoy’s gift goes beyond the living. He also tries to heal the dead. His gift allows him to see those that have not moved on after their deaths, with some of them confessing their stories to him.
Because of all the activities, they did not get to go around the seminary. And I don’t know if he got to see Fr. Nono.
It’s that time of the year though in which we remember him, still with some pain and confusion. Lola knows that Fr. Momoy may help with some sort of closure for Fr. Nono and for all those that love him.
On his last night in San Jose, Fr. Momoy asked for a photo of Fr. Nono. Of course, it is when you start looking for something that you can never find it. Mom finally found a photo of a young Fr. Nono when he first arrived in San Jose. I wish they had found the photo we took on our wedding day. We were so happy in the photo. But it still kills me to think that he was not, that he was troubled and nobody knew.
——–
How heavy a gift that must be. To be able to heal the unborn, to heal the sick and to heal the dead. Only people of such immense faith can carry such a heavy task and receive it with such abundant grace. And share it.
What was supposed to be a quick visit in the morning turned into lunch at the house, which turned into guests for the night. With open arms, Papa and Mama and the whole family welcomed Fr. Momoy (Tita Jean, Tita Helma and Tito Kid too). And in return, I would like to believe, we received much in return as well – prayers, blessings and new friends.
I truly believe that we will be okay – me and Baby. But I also want to believe that everyone Fr. Momoy touches will also be okay. And even more, that the souls that seek his help in finding peace and their way to God will be okay as well. The only thing I can really contribute to his ministry at this point are prayers – because really, that man needs prayers too.
